It is with great honour and privilege that I have the opportunity to showcase my country, Brunei Darussalam, on this Cloud Tour of ASEAN with the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).
Brunei Darussalam is strategically located in the heart of Southeast Asia, with good connectivity to regional and global markets including China, Southeast Asia, and the wider region. Our country is a peaceful and beautiful nation covered in lush rainforests, blessed with beautiful mosques, abundant with amazing food, and rich in culture and traditions. Brunei is often called "the Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures" as you will uncover many gifts of nature, happiness, and friendship during your visit.
Recently on 23 February 2024, Brunei Darussalam celebrated its 40th national day, a significant milestone in our country's history. Its theme 'bersatu mencapai cita negara', which means "achieving the nation's aspirations together", signifies our enduring commitment to the Brunei Vision 2035. In doing so, Brunei welcomes collaboration with all countries in many areas, especially downstream oil and gas, ICT, services, food, and tourism.
When it comes to our bilateral ties, Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China established diplomatic relations on 30 September 1991 but the friendship enjoyed between our people can be traced back centuries. Under our Strategic Cooperative Partnership, Brunei and China collaborate in a wide range of areas including trade and investment, defence, agriculture and fisheries, and people-to-people exchanges.
Meanwhile, the ASEAN and China dialogue relations are among the most dynamic, substantive, and mutually beneficial partnerships among ASEAN and its dialogue partners. This year's designation as the Year of ASEAN-China People-to-People Exchanges which will surely facilitate greater interaction and understanding among our people.
Overall, Brunei Darussalam remains committed to strengthening our cooperation and ties with China, ASEAN, and all countries as we strive together for the shared benefit and prosperity of all our peoples.
In closing, I sincerely hope everyone will get the opportunity to visit Brunei Darussalam one day, to explore our sights, enjoy our food, and feel the warmth of our people's welcome. I also take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to the ACC Secretariat for arranging this Cloud Tour initiative.
