Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), sent a letter of condolences to H.E. U Tin Maung Swe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to China, in the wake of a devastating earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28.
In the letter, Shi Zhongjun, expressed the deepest condolences, on behalf of the ACC, for the loss of life and the widespread destruction in Myanmar. He also conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, the casualties , and affected people in the disaster-stricken areas.
Highlighting the close ties between Myanmar and China, Shi Zhongjun emphasized that Myanmar is a family member of ASEAN and a good neighbor of China. The two countries form a community with a shared future sharing weal and woe. Stating that human compassion knows no bounds, the ACC firmly believes that with the concerted efforts of the Myanmar Government and all parties, the people of Myanmar will overcome difficulties and rebuild their homeland. The ACC stands ready to offer its utmost support and assistance in post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
In the reply letter, Ambassador U Tin Maung Swe expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the good spirit and the support extended by the ACC at this difficult time. He said the solace and solidarity is a great strength to Myanmar and will truly be an impetus for further strengthening of the bonds between the two sides.
On April 1 2025, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun paid a visit to the Myanmar Embassy to mourn the victims in the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and signed the book of condolences.
