From 8 to 10 May 2018, ASEAN-China media delegation for the 2018 reporting trip themed ASEAN-China jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road visited Hangzhou, where they had field trips to Hangzhou High Tech Zone, Alibaba Group, Cloud Town, Artinno Town, Dream Town, Zhejiang Daily Press Group and Hangzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Hall where they experienced advanced technological innovation and its application, observed independent innovation demonstration area, learned about mass entrepreneurship and innovation, enterprise incubation and development and transformation of Zhejiang media.
Hangzhou High Tech Zone was approved by China’s State Council to be one of state-level high-tech industrial development zones in March 1991. Focusing on independent innovation, cyber security, intelligent manufacturing, the zone has built a holistic industrial chain in cyber and information technology that is worth over RMB 100 billion. In the intelligent e-valley, the exhibition centre of the park, the delegation witnessed the exemplification of leading companies in intelligent industries, outcomes of the zone’s information economic development and intelligent industries, and positive impacts brought by intelligent companies to people. During the field investigation of a leading company named Hikvision Digital Technology Company, the delegation learned about the company centred on videos provides security protection, visualized management and big data service across the world, and offers solutions of internet of things to public security, transportation, intelligent building, finance, energy, culture, education, healthcare, etc.
In Alibaba, the delegation learned about the operation of the company particularly its business in retailing, new village, inclusive globe, inclusive technology, inclusive finance and intelligent logistic. Alibaba is the fourth largest high-tech company and the second largest internet company covering e-commerce, ant financial, cainiao delivery, big data cloud computing, advertisement, cross-border business and other internet services. Alibaba for now possesses such seven businesses as Taobao, E-tao, T-mall, Juhuasuan, international business, small enterprise business and Alibaba Cloud.
In Cloud Town, the delegation saw an industrial town led by cloud ecology where big data computing transforms data into production factors. The town has already attracted Alibaba Cloud, Foxconn Technology, Intel, Dt Dream and LKK Design, totaling over 400 enterprises, of which, over 300 ones’ businesses are related to cloud covering big data, development of App, internet finance, game and other fields.
Artinno Town was co-founded by Government of Xihu District, China Academy of Art and Zhejiang Conservatory of Music with a view of art plus industry. It has attracted over 1,800 cultural creative enterprises, a number of which have become the leading companies. The delegation visited Timeax is a company specialized at digital image technology. Its main business covers special effects for movies and TV dramas, after-effects, computer animated movies, TV commercials, TV programme packing, etc. It has offered computer animated effects to several big-investment-movies, including fan-shape animated background for the performance named Enduring Memories of Hangzhou during the gala of G20 Summit Hangzhou.
Dream Town covers an area of 3 square kilometers. The construction started in September 2014. With rental reduction, currency subsidy, energy subsidy, soft loan, funding and other measures, it encourages and supports pan-college students’ collective start-up on research & development, manufacturing, operating and engineering in e-commerce, software design, information service, integrated circuit, big data, cloud computing, cyber security, animation design and other internet-related fields. It also cultivates and develops fintech, internet finance, and aggregate angel investment foundations, equity investment institutions and financial management institutions. Seizing the opportunity of mass entrepreneurship and innovation, it is dedicated to building world class internet venture base, and a cradle for all youth possessing start-up dreams.
In Zhejiang Daily Press Group, the management briefed the delegation on operations of the group. The group has over 6,000 employees, over RMB 3.8 income of which the net income is RMB 560 million. It has such 33 traditional media brands as Zhejiang Daily and Qianjiang Evening News, over 300 emerging new media. The group took the lead to develop Mediacube, an intelligent communication service platform supported by integrated media technology, and pushes forward the deep integration of mobile terminal, personal computer and hardcopy newspaper. It has already formed a new pattern that takes internet as a main channel to broadcast and hardcopy newspaper a supporter.
The delegation visited the urban planning exhibition centre of Hangzhou where they learned about time-honoured history of Hangzhou as a cultural city, and the city’s achievements in urban construction and design. The delegation also immersed themselves in convenience of internet payment at a gas station of Petro China.
The vitality and innovation left a strong impression to the whole delegation. The journalists raised questions on such topics as high tech companies’ operation, development, product orientation, and enterprise-incubating favourable policy, encouraging direction, supporting policy, and change bought by media transformation, and development direction of artificial intelligence. The managements responded all the questions and wished the delegation could generate in-depth reports and enhance ASEAN people’s understanding on China’s innovative industrial development.
