On 30 October 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping,Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) visited Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd. in Xishuangbanna prefecture, Yunnan province. She made a field trip to Jinghong Hydropower Station which is under construction and exchanged views with Mr.Zha Rongrui, Director of Jinghong Hydropower Station and Ms. Yuan Ping, Director for International Cooperation of Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd.
Mr. Zha Rongrui and Ms. YuanPing gave an overview of the company and its cooperation with ASEAN countries. The Lancang-Mekong River connects six countries and has a geographical advantage in promoting economic integration. Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Corporation is actively working for mutually beneficial cooperation with countries along the Mekong River for power generation. The first China-Myanmar BOT hydropower project, Shweli (I) HPP has been completed and put into operation. It has also been working on Lower Sesan 2 HPP in Cambodia and conducting studies on transnational power transmission and other power projects. It is hoped that ACC would facilitate power cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, countries along the Mekong River in particular.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping commended the corporation for its commitment to strengthening cooperation with ASEAN countries. She cited that the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism has reinforced ASEAN-China cooperation, and provided an important platform for concerned countries to deepen cooperation. As an inter-governmental organization co-founded by the governments of ASEAN Member States and China, ACC will continue to facilitate practical cooperation between enterprises of both sides. It will stay in contact with Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd. so as to provide support and assistance for it to work with countries along the Mekong River.
