On 5 May 2016, H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), and H.E. Dato’ Zainuddin Bin Yahya, Ambassador of Malaysia to China, met with Mr. Liu Fuxing, Vice- President of the Northwest Normal University in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. Liu Hong, Deputy Director-General of Gansu Provincial department of Education, and Lu Xinglai, Deputy Director-General of Gansu Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, attended the meeting.
Vice-President Liu Fuxing welcomed Secretary-General Yang Xiuping and Ambassador Dato’ Zainuddin to the Northwest Normal University. He briefed on the historical background and the current situation of the university and noted that 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the Year of ASEAN-China Educational Exchange. He said that the university would take this opportunity to further strengthen relations and educational cooperation with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. He hoped for continued support from ACC and the Malaysian Embassy.
Ambassador Zainuddin expressed his gratitude to the efforts and achievements in promoting educational cooperation between the university and ASEAN. The ASEAN Ambassadors’ Lecture Series held in the Northwest Normal University aimed to boost public awareness of Malaysia and other ASEAN countries among the youth in China and pass on the Malaysia-China and ASEAN-China friendship from generation to generation. The Malaysian Embassy was ready to join efforts with ACC and the Northwest Normal University to promote ASEAN-China relations.
Secretary-General Yang Xiuping briefed on the mandate and work of ACC. She remarked that ACC, as a bridge between ASEAN and China, would like to further promote Gansu and ASEAN cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, media and other fields, and make new contribution to ASEAN-China cooperation.
