ACC Secretary-General Met with Secretary of Philippine Department of Tourism

On 20 January 2016, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) Secretary-General H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping met with H.E. Mr. Ramon R. Jimenez Jr., Secretary of the Department of Tourism of the Philippines.

Secretary-General Yang Xiuping expressed her appreciation for the kind invitation, hospitality and thoughtful arrangements extended by the Philippine Department of Tourism as the Host of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2016. She said that ACC attached great importance to ASEAN-China tourism exchanges and endeavors to promote ASEAN’s tourism potentials, match-making, conduct capacity building projects for tourism professionals, and facilitate tourism authorities of ASEAN countries including the Philippines. With the support of Philippine Department of Tourism and the Embassy of the Philippines in China, ACC successfully co-hosted the capacity building projects in Manila and Cebu, respectively. Moreover, ACC also organized investment mission of Chinese entrepreneurs to the Philippines in November 2015. Secretary-General Yang was hopeful that the contacts and cooperation with the Philippine Department of Tourism would enhance tourism exchanges between China and the  Philippines. 

Secretary Jimenez thanked Secretary-General Yang for attending the ATF 2016 and for ACC’s efforts in promoting the development of tourism in ASEAN and China. He regarded tourism as a strong link of communication between the peoples of different countries, which had played an important role in consolidating cooperation in trade, investment and culture, etc. He further added that ACC had been very active and productive in the areas of trade, investment, education, tourism and culture since its establishment. Secretary Jimenez hoped that ACC could continue to spread its influence and promote the development of tourism in ASEAN and China. The Philippine Department of Tourism was also ready to offer its support and assistance to ACC at any time.  

Secretary-General Yang briefed on the work of ACC and said that ASEAN-China relations had developed smoothly in 2015 marked by the constant progress in various areas of functional cooperation. ASEAN-China two-way trade exceeded 472 billion USD and the aggregated mutual investment from January to October 2015 reached over 150 billion USD. Over 1,000 weekly flights connected China and ASEAN countries. ACC had actively implemented the important consensus reached by both leaders and achieved positive progress in functional cooperation. In the past 4 years since its establishment, ACC had concluded nearly 90 flagship projects and engaged in over 400 activities. 2016 marked the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the ASEAN-China Year of Educational Exchange. ACC would take this opportunity to hold a series of activities in various fields. She was hopeful that ASEAN and China would join hands to undertake new projects, hence contribute to the deepening of functional cooperation between the two sides.
