On 27 June 2015, ASEAN media delegates, participating in the “Reporting Trip” on the "China-ASEAN Jointly Build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, visited Putian. H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, the Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and Ms. Zhao Jun, Vice Editor-in-Chief of China Report, led the delegation.
Mr. Cheng Qiang, Member of the Standing Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee of Putian and Director of the Publicity Department of Putian, met the delegates and introduced the current development and future prospect of Putian. The delegates visited the 3TREES Group Compound, one of the country’s largest ecological paint manufacturers, and Meizhou Island, the legendary birthplace and burial place of the Chinese goddess Matsu, who has been believed to be the protector of seafarers. The delegation also gained knowledge about Matsu culture, which had spread from Fujian to the coastal areas of mainland China and to some of Southeast Asian countries by the overseas Chinese.
ACC Secretary-General Yang received exclusive interviews by the media from Singapore and the local Putian Television. Against the backdrop of the current developments of ASEAN-China relations, Secretary-General Yang expressed her fond impression on the development of Fujian Province, which would be a great opportunity to the future work of ACC.
She said ASEAN is China's good neighbor, good friend and good partner. China and ASEAN celebrated the 10th anniversary of ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership in 2013. At present, the two sides have broadened and deepened their cooperation in all-round dimensions. ACC has been established for more than three years by the governments of ASEAN and China to perform its roles in promoting China and ASEAN functional and practical cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, information and public relations, as well as in other fields. ACC has continuously contributed to the development of ASEAN-China relations. ACC’s future work should follow the new trend of the development of ASEAN-China relations and meet the demand arising from the development of the 11 countries, conforming to the aspiration of peoples of 2 billion and their well-being. ACC would actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders such as “2 + 7” Cooperation Framework and all relevant initiatives, expand innovation, promote cooperation in various fields, and look for new highlights of cooperation to ASEAN-China relations.
Secretary-General Yang said ACC organized the “Reporting Trip” by ASEAN media to China under the theme visit of “the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” to enhance media cooperation and promote understanding between the peoples of China and ASEAN. She expressed full hope that the ASEAN reporters, through on-spot investigation and site visits, would experience the development and achievements of China and make greater contribution to further enhance the mutual trust between China and ASEAN.
