On the morning of 18 March 2015, Mr. Tri Purnajaya, Director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division (ECTD) together with Ms. Sun Xuejing, Education Officer of ACC paid a visit to National Institute of Education Sciences (NIES), and met with Prof. Liu Jianfeng, Vice President of NIES and Ms. Wang Yan, Director of International Department of NIES.
The two sides reviewed the process of compiling the Guidebook on Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia and China, which is the first program under the ASEAN-China Education Research Network jointly initiated in June 2014 by the ACC, NIES and SEAMEO (Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization), and made in-depth discussion on how to expedite the programme, as well as on other key points of work. The two sides reached a consent to co-organize the 3rd meeting of ASEAN-China Education Network by this year, to jointly determine the next joint-program, as well as to publish the english version of the Guidebook on Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia and China by the end of 2015.
Director Tri Purnajaya said that it was ACC’s duty and mission to promote functional cooperation in education between ASEAN and China, and ACC would spare no efforts for its enhancement. ASEAN-China Education Research Network is not only an important element in developing education cooperation between ASEAN and China, but also a mean to promoting ASEAN-China education exchanges. ACC is consistent in providing support and assistance to promote and ensure cooperative programs in order for the network to run smoothly and function as a sustainable mechanism for cooperation.
ASEAN-China Education Research Network aims to promote practical cooperation in education and science in Southeast Asian countries and China. It was formally launched in June 2014, and is developing a series of activities, in which one of its activities is to compile the Guidebook on Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia and China. The three sides held two meetings separately in Beijing and Guizhou in June and September 2014 respectively, whereby experts and scholars from the Ministries of Education and educational research organizations of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Viet Nam and Timor-Leste attended the discussions on the general frame, exchange mechanism, future working mode of network, and made a consensus to jointly publish the Guidebook on Education Systems and Reforms in Southeast Asia and China. By now, the experts and scholars of ASEAN countries and China have completed the compilations on education systems and reforms of their respective countries.
